The “State Flower of Texas”  It is an annual flower native to Texas. It is seen along roadsides and uncultivated pastures in the state. It has densely arranged flowers with a white tip. Prefers sloped areas in well lit, well-drained soil. Needs full sun.

Also known as lemon beebalm is a 1-2 ft., aromatic winter annual with unusual, tuft-like, lavender to pink, whorled flower heads. Each whorl in the elongated spike is subtended by whitish or lavender, leaf-like bracts. Several stems grow from the base and are lined with pairs of lance-shaped leaves. It has a distinctive citrus or lemony scent when the leaves are rubbed or crushed. It is very easy to grow and often forms large colonies. Bees and butterflies are attracted to this plant.

Purple Coneflower

A popular perennial with smooth, 2-5 ft. stems and long-lasting, lavender flowers. Rough, scattered leaves that become small toward the top of the stem. Flowers occur singly atop the stems and have domed, purplish-brown, spiny centers and drooping, lavender rays. An attractive perennial with purple (rarely white), drooping rays surrounding a spiny, brownish central disk.

The Purple Coneflower is a showy, drought resistant, easily grown garden plant that prefers well drain soil and full sun.
